![]() ![]() The idea of this world, the world as it was before man, inspired me throughout the composition of these tracks. An endless number of ice age dawns came and went unseen. Quoted from the linear notes is the idea behind this new album: "Once the world was alone, the landscapes had no names and there was no one to see them. Northaunt's sound can best be described as landscapes transformed into aural emanations, enabling the listener to in turn be able to journey through those barren and foreign lands through the minds eye. Not only is this completely new material, crafted from recordings made from 2003 up until 2014, but we are offered about 1h20 min on a double CD! Constantly tapping into the singular northern landscapes of his native Norway for inspiration, Hærleif Langås transposes his views and feelings of the great white north into intricately deep and poignant soundscapes. to complement the album’s stunning final package.ĩ long years after the release of the seminal album "Horizons", we are finally greeted to a new opus by Norway's most unique craftsmen of cold, desolate and deep nordic ambient. Produced and engineered by Bill Anderson (Swans, Agalloch, Pallbearer, Red House Painters, Melvins) in Portland Oregon, Anderson in conspiracy with Wrest has helped to manifest the best, most crushing and dark sounding LEVIATHAN album to date likewise.Īlso “Scar Sighted” will be specially packaged (all editions of the album) in a special boxed-CD edition with artwork inserts (painted by Jef Whitehead) etc. With “Scar Sighted”, LEVIATHAN continues more in the vein of the “Massive Conspiracy Against All Life” masterpiece while other “lurkings” also run amongst the epic sound picture Wrest has painted with “Scar Sighted”. ![]() Given the name “Scar Sighted”, LEVIATHAN’s fifth full-length album (amongst a repertoire that consists of numerous demos, compilations, EPs, and splits) is an album that comprises familiar moments culled from LEVIATHAN’s entire repertoire into one demented and twisted opus while standing as its own distinct entity within the LEVAIATHAN oeuvre “Scar Sighted” being years in the making following the chaos, turbulence, and psychotic turmoil surrounding 2011’s controversial “True Traitor True Whore” album. ![]() black metal entity, LEVIATHAN (solely commanded by Wrest, aka Jef Whitehead) has returned with what could possibly be regarded as one of the most glorious moments of Wrest’s musical career, one in which is comprised of a vast musical repertoire like no other in black metal. Overall, “The Deal” is an absolutely crushing album that stands its own ground which will bring some familiarity with Turner’s repertoire and bring back that classic Hydra Head Records forward-thinking sound and vibe.Īnother long-awaited return and rejuvenation of the most notorious and infamous U.S. The duo would enter the studio in Seattle late summer to track “The Deal” with Mell Dettmer (Wolves In The Throne Room, Sunn 0)) etc.) where they would be joined by Russian Circles/Botch/These Arms Are Snakes bassist Brian Cook who would ultimately lay the pulse down for the album (which would be mixed by Kurt Ballou of Converge at Godcity Studios and mastered by Mikka Jusslla at Finvoxx Studios in Finland). With SUMAC, Yacyshyn allows himself to showcase and expand his drumming talents even further as it is with SUMAC where we will really witness the true talent of this drummer. With one of the goals for SUMAC was for Turner to write some of the heaviest music he has ever written, he found the ideal partner with Baptists drummer Nick Yacyshyn, one of the best drummers in heavy music today. SUMAC came to form when Aaron Turner had the urge to create music that’s heavy and colossal once again, wanting to bring back the heaviness aspect that he incorporated in Isis, and what he currently does in the OLD MAN GLOOM collective, into a wholly new and different band unlike anything he has previously done before. An album consisting of steamroller crushing heaviness and methodical free-range technicality. Bass player Brian Cook (Russian Circles, Botch, These Arms Are Snakes) also joins the duo (as an auxiliary member) and did all the bass tracking on the band’s debut album entitled “The Deal”. SUMAC is a new band who’s main core consists of Aaron Turner (Isis, Old Man Gloom, Mamiffer) and drummer Nick Yacyshyn from Baptists (who apparently happens to be Dave Grohl’s new favourite drummer). ![]()
